Bioremediation
from Arundo
Remediate polluted soils in order to recultivate unusable land

What is Bioremediation?

Cost efficient and easily controlled
The costs of the bioremediation is lower than that of other processes of remediating soil. At the same time, the plants used for this process can be easily monitored.

Safest option
It is the least harmful method of soil cleansing, because it utilises naturally occurring organisms and preserves the environment in a more natural state. Other methods of soil mediation cleans the soil at the price of it’s fertility. Phytoremediation preserves the topsoil layer of the lands, maintaining the fertility of the soil.

Extra benefits
Apart from preserving the topsoil, it also increase soil health, yield, and plant phytochemicals. As a byproduct the use of plants also reduces erosion, a huge concern, and metal leaching in the soil.

Why use Arundo for Bioremediation?
Here is a list of reasons why you should choose Arundo for bioremediation:
Arundo has an outstandingly high growth rate and resultant annual biomass yield meaning it can take a significantly larger amount of contamination out of the soil compared to other plants.
It has an intense transpiration, that can process up to 32 ML/Ha/year.
With a high metabolism rate and strong oxidative and detoxifying enzyme activities, organic contamination break down is faster than most other plants.
Arundo is known as a low maintenance plant, but it has an incredible tolerance, ranging from 3 to 9 on the pH scale. It also has a tolerance to halogenated organics and to heavy metals.

Arundo Donax for Phytoremediation of Metal-Contamined Soils
There is an enourmous amount of metal-contamined, non-ferrous soils all around our globe. The concept of soil pollution has been around for decades, and it became one of our biggest problems next to other vital global issues. It is greatly harmful for the plants...

Arundo Agronomy: The Environmental Impacts of Arundo
Out of several various ones, Arundo is the most promising energy plant due to its tolerance to a wide range of environmental stresses, and in addition, it can be cultivated on marginal lands which can not be used for traditional food crops. An open field experiment in...

Facing Climate Change on Marginal Farmland
Energy crops are well-known for their capabilities to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and increase soil carbon stocks. Mitigation measures are required to face climate change and sustain marginal farmland and communities in crop production. Crops with high...
